Axiom Chapter 13

Vision Leaks

Nehemiah teaches us that vision should be re-visited every 25 days or so. If not, we get vision drift—thinking we are on target while we are actually moving further away from it. It is so important to know where we are going, in our marriage, our money, our business, and our ministry. The Word teaches us that we perish for a lack of knowledge. The word perish means several things in this application—languish, wander, flounder, or die—none of them good! Vision is knowledge, it is the defining of where we are going, the target, the goal. It starts with first steps—what we can see—and enlarges as we move forward. That is why it must be continually and consistently revisited and updated—it grows as we move toward it. If our vision is not growing, and does not require me to connect with others to accomplish it, then it is not a God vision. We keep ourselves, and those we are leading, from wandering when we make sure the vision is clear, consistent, and constantly updated.

I love the questions Hybels gives us in the last paragraph. What a powerful tool for leading in vision!
How full is your vision bucket these days?
Do you sense progress around here toward our vision?
Which part of our church’s vision is most meaningful to you?

Use these with yourself and your team and we will always be moving forward and defining new opportunities in our vision.

  1. Ashamedly, vision has a tendency to leak out of me even though I am the leader of the area I serve. Praying for CAML and the Growth Track is one way I keep vision from leaking out of me. Prayer keeps our vision on the forefront of my mind and reminds me to keep the vision before those I serve. Taking advantage of modern communication methods would probably help as well.

  2. If you have a leaking problem, plug your holes with the Word, Worship and Prayer! It can keep you from sinking..

  3. Prayer is vital to life and to any vision. If we are not hearing the heart of God then our buckets are bound to run dry. Surrouding yourself with other leaders who are full of vision always helps when trying to keep your own bucket full. I have key people in my life that I can depend on as bucket fillers and I make it a priority to hang with them on a regular basis. As we stay full of vision then it is so important to continually and effectively impart it to others.

  4. A practical way I stay full of vision is to seek out people at CAML and at CAML Revolve and find out what they're doing to change the world! That gets me fired up all over again and is a constant reminder that we're here on purpose. Also, being around friends who are pumped about Jesus and CAML helps. Thanks to all you crazy people around me!

  5. I see progress in our vision this month as so many CAML people have joined together in prayer for the lost, the hurting & the next generation. God is doing His part to bring the harvest, but there must be great churches for them to go to. Sharing the life-giving message of Jesus includes making disciples -- sharing life with people, making divine connections, and this part of the vision really makes me happy. :)
