Axiom- Big Idea

Sheryll: sometimes what may seem like the smallest idea is the big idea that will change a job, a business, a ministry or a life forever. don't dismiss quirky ideas because sometimes they are what will get someone's attention.

Tony: I think it is so important to create & nurture a culture that encourages ideas. A yes environment doesn't mean every idea is used but that every idea is heard. Lay our ego aside & admit the obvious-sthere are sometimes better ideas than our own. make sure those we lead feel they can present their ideas. find ways to use them and they will bring even bigger & better ideas.

  1. I am all about this! Some of the best ideas we have had in the nursery have just been random comments made by team members. One such idea that has saved us tons of time, and made diaper changing more efficient, is getting each child's diaper out of their bag at the beginning of celebration and writing their name on it, this way as we get the children changed we don't have to go searching through bags, and it makes it easier to make sure everyone is changed.

Not all of the ideas are great, but knowing that everyone is thinking about what we can improve helps keep us always brainstorming. I love that the team cares so much that they want to help us be the best we can be...and there are some pretty creative wonderful people on the team (good thing too...since I am not always that way!) God has definitely put the right people in the right seats!!

(as a side note...I am excited that it is finally letting me post :) I have had technical issues up until now!)

  2. Loved your post, Lisa:)

This chapter reminded me of the value of WRITING down your ideas.

There is a statement that I often share with students of music and aspiring songwriters: "The is one difference between a person who wants to write songs and a songwriter: the songwriter writes."

That reminds me of another one: "Artists who are waiting on inspiration are not artists at all. They are waiters."

Good ideas are all around us. There are in the ideas and voices of those we lead and of those we follow too.

Final Thought: "Write the vision making it plain on tablets. So that a runner may carry the correct message to others." - Habakkuk 2:2.

  4. Pastor Sheryll, I agree, sometimes some of the quirkiest ideas are the best ones. I have them often and find keeping a note pad handy is helpful. Sometimes when the thoughts come, I forget them before I get around to writing them down. When I jot down the idea, I can later come back and determine if it is something I want to implement.

  5. Man, isn't it great how God uses each of us to develop His plan or idea. The original thought may start with one but look what happens when you allow others to be involved in the process. Many times people keep their thoughts to themselves, thinking they are insignificant. I was reminded of two things from this chapter. One, God is the ultimate "big idea" giver. And two, share your ideas so God can use others in the process.

  6. Good ideas are priceless. I wholeheartedly agree that they are worth seeking and stewarding. The Holy Spirit has plenty of great ideas in store for us & will share them w/ us if we will just ask, even if we are not naturally creative, which is good news. He has generously & graciously given me one good idea after another even though I’m not naturally creative. He knows exactly what actions and/or words will produce in any & every situation. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is the Holy Spirit is CREATIVE and willing to share what He knows.

  7. Idea's always remind me of the power of synergy. It truly is amazing what can spur off of one thought with the thoughts of others.

I think about how Pastors tell us to be listening to those around us. I'll never forget when Dr. Ginny said...I saw the cutest thing the other day in the restroom at the Cultural Arts Center..A STALL SEAT JOURNAL! Well, we took it, made it incredible and people that visit our church love it and there's no telling how many other churches now use the idea. We should remember to keep our ears open to the people around us and their great ideas.

  8. I love knowing that even my idea is totally off-the-wall that I have a place to be heard. I think that's the main thing people want: to feel like they have a voice. As a team leader, it's my job to cultivate an environment where the team members have a voice. One easy way we do this is by always asking questions like, how do you think it's going? What do you think we could do better? How would you do... In our weekly emails/blogs to the team, we always try to give them a chance to answer an "idea" question like that.

  9. I really like what Amy said in regards to having a place to be heard. We all have different ideas that come throughout the day or week and when there is a safe place to share them it is powerful. We were created to commune together and part of that is to share and relish on how we can bounce ideas off of one another. When you come together as the body of Christ and have the freedom to share then the Holy Spirit can really do some amazing things with those ideas. The power of one is good but the power of many is even greater to share ideas.
